Lachlan Loves and Needs Ronnie Macs

We need your help, to help Ronnie Macs, Help!

G’Day our names are Steve and Sharan and we are Pop (grandfather) and Gramsie (grandmother) to an amazing little warrior named Lachlan Reed and we are raising money to support Ronald McDonald House - South Brisbane (RMH SB).

Since September 2023, Lachlan along with his Mum and Dad, Rebecca and Brett and his beautiful sisters, Charlotte and Oliver, from Toowoomba, have been guests at RMH SB - affectionately known as Ronnie Macs. They are in Brisbane whilst our grandson, Lachlan receives treatment at the Queensland Children’s Hospital.

Lachlan is real bundle of joy and always has a smile on his face, but hidden under his wickedly adorable smile is a very sick little boy. Lachlan suffers from a chronic kidney condition that has seen him in total renal failure since he was only a few months old. He is now 3 (2024) and in need of a kidney transplant, but until then, Lachlan needs daily dialysis, and this means days in hospital.

We recently thought that his life was about to change, when a kidney became available, but after what initially appeared to be a successful transplant, Lachlan’s condition quickly spiralled out of control. The morning following the surgery he was critically ill and the transplant team was forced to remove the new kidney to save his life. This means that the Reed family's stay at Ronnie Macs will continue as they love and support Lachlan who is now back on daily dialysis.

Ronnie Macs provides accommodation for families of sick kids, like Lachlan, who can’t get the treatment they require in their home location. It has been a godsend for the Reed family and has allowed them to stay together and provide the support that Lachlan needs.

Of course this all takes money, so if you would like to support this amazing charity and help provide support for many families who have sick kids in hospital please donate whatever you can.

Staying at the house

The South Brisbane House gives seriously ill children the best gift of all – their families. Our warm and supportive home-away-from-home provides the whole family with a comfortable place to stay and peace of mind, knowing they can stay together and close to their child’s hospital.

Our apartment style facility was opened in response to the overwhelming need for safe, reliable short and long-term accommodation for families travelling to Brisbane for their child’s medical treatment. More than doubling the capacity of our former South Brisbane House, our new home can sleep up to 87 families each night.

DonateLife Week - Sunday 28 July - Sunday 4 August 2024

Wednesday 31st Jul

DonateLife Week is the national awareness week that takes place in July each year to encourage more Australians to get behind organ and tissue donation. This year DonateLife Week is taking place from Sunday 28 July - Sunday 4 August 2024.

We know that 4 in 5 Australians say they support donation, but only approximately 1 in 3 (36%) are registered to be a donor on the Australian Organ Donor Register (AODR).

In 2024, we want all Australians to register as organ and tissue donors and be the reason someone else gets a second chance at life.

Help us spread the word about organ and tissue donation by getting your local sports club, workplace, cafes, friends, family, and community involved.
